Chokecherry-Sierra Madre Wind Farm Project

Location: Carbon County, WY
Client: Power Company of Wyoming

The Chokecherry-Sierra Madre Wind Farm Project in Carbon County, Wyoming is among the largest wind energy projects in the U.S. The project will generate 2,000 megawatts of power-similar to the entire electrical generation at Hoover Dam-and includes approximately 1,000 wind turbines over 98,500 acres of private and federal lands. Associated facilities include access roads, underground electric gathering lines, an overhead electric transmission line, and electric substations to interconnect the generated power to the electric grid. The project requires approximately 3 to 5 years for construction, with an in-service target date of late 2012 and will operate continuously (except for maintenance shutdowns on individual wind turbine generators) with a projected 30-year life.

TEC is providing expert documentation and impact evaluation services for historic trails and other historic resources. More specifically, TEC is providing an analysis of visual impacts to the Overland Trail and two other trails, which served as major nineteenth century wagon train and overland mail routes.
