TEC is providing port planning and design expertise to the Millennium Challenge Corporation for their compact with the Government of Benin, which includes the construction of two new berths, and improvements to existing facilities at the Port of Cotonou. TEC’s focus has been on how to improve operations and transactions at the Port. TEC also reviewed the coastal processes in the Port of Cotonou area, various proposed coastal zone management programs for the area, and prepared the Terms of Reference to procure professional services to objectively evaluate alternative schemes that address sedimentation of the harbor access, the needs as well as options for disposal of dredged material, and erosion control of downdrift coastline. TEC also contributed to the original port assessment for MCC, which focused on technical feasibility regarding alternative project designs and compliance with environmental and social safeguards.
