Water Distribution System Study, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma

Location: Yuma, Arizona
Client: Marine Corps Air Station Yuma

TEC developed an award-winning computer model of the drinking water system at U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. The project won the 2008 Geo-fidelis Award from the Commandant of the Marine Corps and included a study of the physical condition and current and future capacity of the drinking water distribution system.

TEC developed the model using a GIS-based program (MWH InfoWater Suite) that simulates the flow, pressure and water quality throughout the system under different scenarios. The air station continues to expand upon the model and uses it to evaluate available capacity to meet water demands of future base developments, improve water flow from the two water storage tanks, and improve water quality as residual chlorine levels become more consistent, avoiding low residual chlorine areas (stale water) and the problems associated with higher chlorine levels (trihalomethanes, halogenic acetic acids).
