Land Use/Community Planner, Annapolis, MD

TEC Inc. an international consulting company is seeking an Land Use/ Community Planner for our Annapolis, MD office.

Job Summary: Provide Project Management for projects related to military and community land use planning for TEC clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

1. Consults on issues of encroachment & land use planning in the vicinity of military installations and training areas. Supports and works with client and other program directors, other military commands, neighborhood and city organizations and business lines to resolves issues that occur inside and outside installation boundaries that could impact military property, operations and mission.

2. Works with USMC installations Community Plans & Liaison Offices and/or Commanding Officers as required to facilitate and mentor on communicating with local citizens, professionals and local, state and regional officials concerned with planning and growth issues. Often required to work on site in client offices located in the Washington DC metro area.

3. Prepares and/or delivers correspondence, information, educational materials, briefings & responses to developers, real estate agents, visiting generals, local elected officials, government agencies, civic and neighborhood groups, higher echelon and adjacent commands & congressional representatives regarding compatible land uses, encroachment issues, force structure and mission realignment studies and results, congressional taskings and other related topics.

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in a planning related discipline.
  • 5-8 years experience in land use planning, community planning and public information.
  • Ability to exercise professional discretion and judgment.
  • Working level knowledge of:
    • Compatible land use planning / encroachment issues
    • Smart growth concepts
    • Community involvement and outreach
    • Consensus building / facilitation
    • NEPA
    • GIS
  • Ability to research, collect and organize information for analysis
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and create power point presentations.
  • Excellent communications and problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Washington DC metro area.
  • Must be able to travel.
