Cardno TEC completed a High Voltage System Survey at Main Base and the Laurel Bay Housing Area at MCAS Beaufort, SC. By reviewing the operational condition of the high voltage lines and equipment, and performing systems studies to determine problem equipment in the event of an outage, Cardno TEC was able to recommend short-term and long-term maintenance and repair actions. Cardno TEC reviewed prior inspection documents related to the high voltage systems serving the base, and inspected all MCAS power poles, coring each pole to determine rot or insect damage, and then plugged each core hole. Thermal imaging of all transformers and main electrical switches was also performed. Cardno TEC was able to identify all relay, fuse, switch, line size, system configuration and line composition discrepancies; this helped to develop Emergency Scenarios related to potential line faults. To help MCAS Beaufort with future plans, Cardno TEC developed new Line Diagrams showing the present high voltage systems distribution and produced Fundable Cost Estimates for all repair and replacement work.
